Tope have appeared on the Portpatrick and Portlogan Marks

The Tope have appeared on the Portpatrick and Portpatrick Marks and also some nice Teen sized Spurdogs and Bullhuss around. In LuceBay the Tope have been a bit elusive lately, but when you get attached there have been some decent 40 plus sized fish landed. The Mackerel are plentiful in the Bay at the moment and can be easily caught from the Rock Marks on the east side of The Mull of Galloway. When fishing from these Rock marks it is worth trying big baits as there have been some Tope and nice sized Bullhuss caught. Beach Marks like Terrally Bay,Grennan,Chappelrossan and even Sandhead Beach are worth a try ,Fishing into darkness and up to High Tide particulary at Sandhead is the most productive with Smoothhounds up to around the 9lbs being landed. Rock Marks on the West side of the Peninsula producing some Smoothhounds as well,The Yellow Isle, Black Head point at Killantringan all worth a shot, other rock marks worth a try for other species are The Cheese Rock,Dunskey Castle etc more for Wrasse,Pollack etc. In lochryan there are a few Mackerel from The Railway pier in stranraer also Cairnryan and Finnarts bay worth a try as well.

I fished the Mull of Galloway Sea Angling Festival with Alec Bell aboard his Boat “Striker” along with Paul Mc Kie and Allan Mc Lelland. We had 21 species along with “Moonshine” skippered by Stuart Fitzimmons and were beat by 1/2cm into 4th place by the count back on Nominated Species. This was a well ran Event which attracted 41 Boats and was won by” Solway Venture” closely followed by the “Tartan Spartan” who also tied on 28 species and the countback on Nominated species also decided their positions. There will be a Feature in this months Salt Water Boat Angler on this Event which was extremely well organised by the MOGSAF Committee and their Helpers. I Had another trip out from Portlogan where we had lots of good sized Spurdog and Bullhuss, heres a few Pics and Tight Lines Eric
