Tope and Smoothhounds back in the Area

The Tope and Smoothhounds have made an appearance in Lucebay and Wigtown Bay Areas. Mackerel are in Lochryan ,Portlogan ,and Lucebay. There are lots of Dogfish around,Pollack and the Plaice have appeared around Portlogan and Portpatrick . Still the occasional Common Skate being caught from Portlogan and Portpatrick,a few Haddock,Pollack and Bullhuss as well. Grey Gurnards ,Whiting,Dabs and many other species are turning up . I had a run out in Lucebay on Sunday past where we had 9 different species whilst mainly targeting Tope and Smoothhounds . The species consisted of Thornback Ray,Whiting,Grey Gurnard,Mackerel,Tope,Smoothhound,Dab,Dogfish and Bullhuss. The Mackerel were a bit scant allthough some Boats and other Anglers fishing from the Rocks around the Mull of Galloway had plenty . We struuggled to find them around the Ardwell Area and after throwing the hook a bit further offshore we picked up a few whilst trying for Ray,s and then after about an hour headed over to the Portwilliam Area where we caught Tope and Bullhuss plus lots of Dogfish . We spent the last hour near Ardwell on the way home and caught a few Smoothhounds on crab and a few other species on worm and squid.
