Fishing Tackle

Sea Angling around the Rhins Peninsula and the Machars is excellent. Every year there are a few Tope caught from beach or rock marks around the area, mostly people prepared to put a bit of time into catching them.

Pollock, Codling, Whiting, Smoothhounds, Bullhuss, Conger, Wrasse, Flatfish and lots of other species can be caught regularly during the summer months from the area. Follow my Blog to find out the best months to catch various different species or telephone us in the shop for an update.

The boat fishing from around the area is excellent with Tope, Spurdog, Bullhuss, Common Skate etc being landed as well as many other species. Call in to the shop where we would be pleased to give some advice or supply the equipment to make your outing successful, whether it be from boat or shore.

We always have a good stock of frozen baits and usually have some live baits during the summer months, but please phone or email us to reserve or check how much we have in stock.

Game fishing is good around our area as well, where there are many reservoirs, Lochs and small fisheries that have Rainbow and Brown Trout in them.

Day tickets for Stranraer and District Angling Association can be purchased from us. The waters included on the permits are Knockquhassen Reservoir, Soulseat Loch, Dindinnie Reservoir and Penwhirn Reservoir. On Soulseat Loch you can spin, bait or fly fish and the other three are fly only.

Here at the Sports Shop we have a good selection of tackle and bait that would make your day on these waters, a success.

There are also a few rivers close by for salmon fishing, such as the Luce, Bladnoch, Stinchar and Cree. We keep a huge selection of flies, lures etc in stock that have caught fish in these rivers over the years

Coarse fishing is becoming more popular in the area in recent years. There are many waters that have good Pike, Perch, Roach and Bream. Also a few waters have some Carp, Tench etc. We keep Maggots and worms during the trout season and have a good stock of ground baits which would be suitable for your day on the water as well as feeders, Split shot, floats etc
